PREVIOUSLY ON PAWLYKEEEL

The fellas close out 2016 in epic proportion.  Jake predicts the episode will last 1 hour 38 minutes and was just FOUR MINUTES OFF.  Trav finally gets Demon’s Crest for SNES and can’t contain his retro boner while Jake falls face first into Stardew Valley’s cute clutches.  The fellas tag-team Metroid II for gameboy and have already started Super Metroid for SNES.  Trav knocks out some classics like Intelligent Qube and Paper Mario as well as his Couch Co-Op affair, Geist.  Jake puts Gears 4 to rest ending 2016 by beating all four major entries in the series.  The backloggers remember the games they played in 2016 and assign some superlatives.  Gaming resolutions for 2017 round out the TAWPIC OF DISCCCUSSH.

Notes:

Muraoka is credited with other NES titles like Metal Gear and Top Gun (both Konami games).  Was active on Metal Gear titles from late 90’s (Metal Gear Solid) through 2008 (Guns of the Patriots), though not the lead composer for those games.

Worked on some old school Need4Speed games and other less notable games before landing a solid gig in 2013 doing on the score for Microsoft’s reboot of Killer Instinct that was followed by Wolfenstein: The New Order and Old Blood.  Also working on Prey soundtrack due out later this year.

Had a partner for Castlevania, Satoe Terashima.  Worked at Konami and helped compose solid tracks for other games such as Power Blade and Power Blade 2 for the NES, Pocky and Rocky 2, Mega Man The Wily Wars, and Mega Man X3.. but nothing else notable in gaming since.  Does have her own YouTube channel where she occasionally plays some of her notable tracks on a grand piano.

Let play (0:30-1:37)

Composer:  Nobuo Uematsu (57, Japan)

Notes:

Of the most well known and successful video game composers of all time.  Regularly referred to as the “Beethoven of video games music”.  Biggest influence was Elton John of all people.  Joined Square in 1986 and started writing music for original FF.  Other works include most FF’s, Chrono Trigger, Super Smash Bros Brawl, has no FFXV credits though.  Has also worked in Film/Anime - nothing i recognize besides FF7 Advent Children.
